Speedpaints - October 2015

These are 30 minute speedpaints for the 'Daily Spitpaint' group on Facebook. These are the first times I had posted on the forums.. pretty nerve-wracking stuff to begin with, but a lot of fun and I feel like I've learned a lot and grown a bit in the few weeks that I've kept up with this.

The tight time limit really forces you to think clearly and make decisions quickly.. There's no time for wasting! But I also think the results for these 30 minute paints are much better than what I've been getting from the 1 hour paints at work (see next post below).

Having said that, some of these took 35-40 minutes. You need that extra time sometimes!

iPad sketches

Some sketches and studies done while on holiday in Croatia. I was trying out the Adonit Jot Pro pen and also seeing if I could ever get used to sketching on my iPad. It worked fairly well I think!

Speedpaints

I started a new gig at King and feeling very motivated! We're doing these speedpaints weekly and the company is very active with art development - all awesome! These speedies were 30mins or 1hr long.

Sketches, Studies

The first pic are some pencil sketches, done while lazing about at the pool on holiday - fun fun! The pic below it is a mashup of a few things: B&W photo study, digital plein air painting while on the train to Denmark a few months back, and a few pics that 'never made it'.

Dyatlov Pass

The second subject on the new blog is 'Dyatlov Pass', picked by Brendan. Its a really fascinating story, and I have no idea why I hadn't heard of it earlier to be honest... You can bet anything that Hollywood will have a movie version sometime soon though, it sounds like the perfect sort of material for it. Have a read of the story below:

This is as far as I got with the subject, there is definitely more I wanted to add, but that'll have to wait a week. I'll also post WIP's when I get back, too.
